針對北韓再度進行核試驗，大陸外交部9日發表聲明指出，北韓不顧國際社會普遍反對，再次進行核試驗，「中國政府對此表示堅決反對」。大陸外交部發言人華春瑩9日表示，大陸外交部負責人將向北韓駐北京大使館負責人提出交涉。
據指出，在此次核試驗正值南韓準備部署戰區高空防衛系統（THAAD）的敏感時刻來看，華春瑩提到的雙方負責人，可能是大陸外交部長王毅與北韓駐北京大使池在龍。
不過，對於大陸是否將加強對北韓的制裁，華春瑩並未正面回答，僅指大陸將「繼續全面、完整地落實」聯合國安理會相關（制裁）決議，履行應盡的國際義務，繼續本著這一立場，以「負責任和建設性的方式」參與安理會相關討論。
華春瑩9日在外交部記者會表示，今年初以來，朝鮮半島形勢曲折反覆，嚴重損害地區和平穩定，與國際社會住宅裝修的普遍期待背道而馳。大陸強烈敦促北韓「信守無核化承諾，遵守安理會相關決議，停止採取任何惡化局勢的行動」。
她說，事實一再證明，朝鮮半島相關各方的安全關切，應該且只能以符合各方利益的方式解決，任何僅從自身利益出發採取的單方面行動，都是「死胡同」。
華春瑩指出，大陸強烈敦促各方「著眼大局，謹言慎行，避免進一步相互刺激」，共同為推動朝鮮半島無核化進程、實現半島和平穩定做出真正努力。大陸將繼續堅持通過對話協商，在「六方會談」架構下解決半島有關問題。
